If you are not using your email signature to promote your credibility, to educate your contacts and to showcase your work, you are wasting some valuable real estate.
We decry the number of emails we have to deal with every day (although don’t you feel just a little disappointed if your inbox is not bulging … I do). But email is still fantastically quick and convenient and here to stay for the foreseeable future.
Why waste that valuable space with all that legal guff about confidentiality or even an environmental message about not printing emails out – who even listens? Use this space wisely.
I have three email signatures:
1. The full-kit-and-caboodle signature
Here’s the one I use on my first email to a contact. It provides:
- All the necessary contact information
- Testimonials about my skills and experience
- A definition of content marketing because it is a new field and my goal is to educate as many people as possible about it.

3. My “reply-only”signature
I don’t want to annoy people with too many sign-up requests or too much info about me, so I’ve trimmed this one to the essentials. I never, ever, ever just sign my name without contact details (and I hate it when other people do because when I come to call them, I have to trawl through all our email correspondence to find that simple detail. Why make it hard?)
